The Basilica of San Leone dates back to 1090. It was dedicated to Pope Leo II, and was built with megalithic tassels, coming from the Citadel area.
The church was seriously damaged by the earthquake of 1693; In 1790 the facade wall was rebuilt and carried the inscription in Latin: "Divo Leoni Papae Civi Patron Populus Ajdonensis Basilicam Hanc Restituit," according to which Pope Leo II was Aidonese.
There is an exterior architecture in the baroque style portal, consisting of a round arch, flanked by two half-columns with Corinthian capitals, on which a lintel rests on reliefs; At the capitals there are two small cymbals with two relief pins.
